I read quite a few LW books when I was young but never read all of them. Then I think I got kind of turned off of them by the tv series - I am one of the few people, I think, that really didn't like that show!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05554217416500328610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35142878.post-24308270940369198202013-01-26T12:59:18.540-06:002013-01-26T12:59:18.540-06:00Fascinating stuff. Don't know why I don't read them; the stories are fascinating. It is nice that you went to the meeting. Also, the job you had transcribing the diary sounds interesting. Maybe you can go back to DeSmet when the weather is a bit nicer.Packrathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02986387347283221427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35142878.post-83675171584912161102013-01-23T15:46:48.792-06:002013-01-23T15:46:48.792-06:00I've never read the Little House books! I...I never experienced LIW while I was growing up. I have always wanted to go back and read them with my kids. Soon...now that you are reminding me of that goal. I was also always perplexed how you could lose your way in a snowstorm. They didn't last long and it melt the next day! HA! Alabama snow! I remember searching for our first house in Wisconsin. We were perplexed and asked our realtor why there were doors on the second floors without porches. How would you access such a door? (But it wasn't an oddity EVERY country house we looked at had this strange door.) We were floored when she told us the door was for blizzards, so you could exit your house! Thanks for the reminders. And I hope you enjoy another 10min of blessed silence in your car at the next Book Club meeting.Ginahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05503988003529913624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35142878.post-27110793949428279612013-01-23T15:27:20.677-06:002013-01-23T15:27:20.677-06:00I don't think I've ever read The Long Wint...I don't think I've ever read The Long Winter. I will say that when we were driving across SD a few years ago and came fairly close to her homestead I couldn't help but take in the STARK landscape. One day I'll get to them. Think you're on to something with a readalong! I was totally fascinated by all the daily-life minutiae that were so foreign to me. I read The Long Winter later on, and it lodged in my brain as well.
