TSS: A guided tour of the TBR and a contest with prizes!

Last week I mentioned that I had a huge TBR in addition to the library stack. I thought I'd show it to you today. Now, this is only the "most urgent" of the TBR books. There are 163 of them. Plus probably another dozen scattered through the house either being read or having been carried off by Mike or the boys, so let's say 175 total. There are more in the living room and hundreds more in the basement. I am working on getting rid of some of them, and in fact I have 15 books taking up most of the chair I am sitting in making typing very uncomfortable. I will be listing them on Paperbackswap when I finish this post. At the end of the year there will be fewer books on those shelves, no matter what I have to do to get rid of them (read them or give them away.)

So. This is the full set of shelves. It's located in our bedroom and the top of it becomes a handy dumping ground for mail, keys, hairbrushes, etc. I cleaned that stuff off before taking the picture. AND I PUT IT ALL AWAY! And then I cleaned the rest of the room except Mike's nightstand and the top of my dresser! And then I vacuumed!! I know, right?

They are pretty well organized, but not strictly alphabetically, as some concessions were made for maximizing shelf space. On top you have Romances on the left, and paranormal on the right. You can see the remainder of the Weather Warden series, Harry Dresden, and the last two Kitty Norvilles, among others.
This first part of the top shelf is reserved for young adult fiction. This isn't all the YA in my TBR collection, as I have loaned some Laurie Halse Anderson and Sarah Dessen to a friend.

Then we have regular fiction, mostly alphabetically except for the hardbacks that are too tall for my shelves.

After that is non-fiction. The first stack are the short ones, and by that I mean physically top to bottom. This takes up less horizontal room in a stack. They are in no particular order. After that they are alphabetical, starting there with Armstrong. The bottom shelf is cockeyed, sorry about that. The shelves are at the end of my bed and hard to photograph well.

And at the very end, another stack of romance.

Now, the Contest. I dare you to show me your TBR. You don't have to show me all of them, just the most important ones to you. (And yes, these are the important ones to me.) Tell me how yours are organized. I know a lot of you have done this in the past, but I'm sure your stacks have changed. Leave me a link to your post and I'll draw a winner on September 1st.

The Prize: Any item of your choosing from the Made by Lisah shop including the custom name or team banners* OR any two books off my Paperbackswap shelf. I'll be adding more books to the shelf this week, but being PBS they may not be there on the 1st.

* please, no more than 12 or so letters if you choose this, or you won't get your banner until 2015!

  1. Your books are much neater than mine. My books are arranged in a super-secret way that only I can understand - it's a mystery to everyone else. I don't feel as bad about my pile after seeing yours.

  2. I'm impressed by how organized your TBR is. I have a stack on my desk (from that post) and since then have accumulated two more stacks. Actually, one of those stacks is mostly books I've loaned out and just gotten back. I have two other bookshelves and then two fake ones (made of boxes) and the fake ones have books stacked on top. Pathetic.

You should read The Lovely Bones. Saw a preview for it today and it looks pretty good (the book was really good).

  3. Well, gosh, I thought mine was bad! ;O) I guess my physical book shelf isn't too hefty but you should see my "need to read" LIST. TAT is a completely different ball game. I have my TBRs on my TSS post, today. Thanks for sharing yours. I feel better about mine, now...

  4. Oh, you have so many good books to read! You are in for a lot of treats!

As to my TBR pile. I am in the process of rearranging my bookshelves. If I get done before the contest ends, I will share, but I plan to share eventually anyways.

  5. I'll see if I can get my act together enough to take a pic. My shelf is overflowing right now. I may have to, ahem, tidy it up a bit.

  6. I'm extremely impressed with how organized your TBR is!! Mine is scattered throughout the house, in a couple of storage boxes, bookshelves, tables. If there was an empty space in my home, it is now filled with books!!

  7. I can't believe you've split the books into genres and then alphabetised them. Talk about organisation. Mine are all thrown together - I'll try to take a picture of them sometime this week!

I absolutely adore seeing other people's bookshelves.

  8. My TBR is mostly a list of thousands of books I want to read. I don't buy books but rather check them out. I'll see if I can pull together the books I own that need to be read. Thanks for the fun contest!

  9. I have close to 130, but they're all scattered through my shelves. I thought that keeping them all together would be too anxiety-inducing. Though I guess I could make a pile...

Anyway, you have some great reading ahead of you! Especially the YA shelf :P

  11. No need to enter me in the give, but I wanted to stop by and say WOW, and congrats on getting those all organized.

  14. My books are kept in a a hollow coffeetable. The space is limited, so it prevents my from continually adding to the pile rather than finishing what is there.

Good luck getting through all those books. The number of those would just overwhelm me!

  15. Well, I have pictures up of my TBR books, although they are not as organized as yours. Basically, they are lined up in a bookcase - in front of other books. I have been holding back from buying any more or stopping in "just for a minute" at the used book store for several months until the number of TBR books is much smaller. I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out, though.

  18. Oh. My. Word. I am. . . not nearly that organized. I am a shame to the librarian world.

  19. Okay. I had to come back and check the date on this. I really want to post my TBR stack. Let's see if I can manage to get it done before the end of the month.

  20. Such fun! I have a TBR book case too; it's gotten a bit messy, but it's sorted by colour (since none of the others made sense-the books are so random!). I'll get it looking pretty again and take a pic. :)
