Your Ten Pantry Staples or Must Haves

Today as I was making "crackers" from a tortilla, I started to wonder what ten items I'd always want to have on hand. I started with the assumption that everyone would have the same first five or so- bread, milk, eggs, butter- quite like on the Wheel of Fortune final round where they give you the first five letters. Then I started to wonder if everyone had the same staples, I mean, vegetarians would have something different, right?  And maybe you're low carb?

My ten would be:
  1. Milk
  2. Butter or margarine
  3. Eggs
  4. Bread
  5. Peanut Butter
  6. Pasta of any shape
  7. Canned beans
  8. Tortillas
  9. Cereal
  10. Coffee

So tell me, what are your ten pantry staples? Are they significantly different from mine?

  1. flour, sugar, cereal, oats may also be on my top...after the milk, eggs, bread, butter, and pasta!

  2. My top ten:

    Almond Milk
    Butter
    Eggs
    Cheese (preferably sharp cheddar)
    Bread
    Pasta
    Corn Meal (Grits)
    Apples
    Popcorn
    Canned Tomatoes

With these I can do omlettes, french toast, grilled cheese, cheese grits, pasta and sauce, pizza bread, pasta w/butter, eggs and toast, and probably even more.

I almost listed brown rice but unless we have something good to go with it then I can skip it.

  3. Oh totally the same things on my list except I would add cheese. I have to have some kind of cheese in some kind of form all the time.

  4. That's pretty close to mine! I wouldn't have beans...mine would probably this:

    Milk
    Butter
    Eggs
    Cheese
    Ham
    Bread
    Apples
    Mandarin Oranges
    Popcorn
    Pasta

should about cover it. We have to have fruit and popcorn for the kids!

  5. Interesting.

I eat 75% of my food at work so my "pantry" staples at home and work are different.

    Strictly at home?
    --Coffee
    --Creamer
    --Eggs
    --Milk
    --Butter
    --Rotel
    --Beans (baked beans)
    --Pasta
    --Spag Sauce
    --Cheese

I can almost always count on having those items--though sometimes the milk will go bad.

For work? Bagels and cream cheese; Oatmeal (though don't eat now that I'm eating bagels); bread; salad dressing; bananas/fruit; yogurt.

  12. My son is allergic to bread, milk, eggs, and butter, so we have a different list! ;) Though of course we use substitutes, like soy milk. I just tried to make a list, but I couldn't get it down from 15 or so. I'd definitely add rice and potatoes to your list, since we eat them pretty much every day. And I panic if I don't have microwaveable chicken nuggets in my freezer. I need to be able to feed my son in 30 seconds if I need to! lol. Food allergies make life complicated.
