Mental Floss's 7 of Literature's Most Desireable Leading Men

Today is Valentine's Day, which I happen to love. I'm a bit crabby today because I've run into too many Valentine's Day haters both online and in person. I don't understand the need to make fun of someone else for enjoying the day. I don't ramble on talking about it to every person I know, and I don't make a big deal of it to the people I'm not celebrating it with so why ridicule it? ANYWAY.

I found this nice little list on the Mental_Floss website and feel compelled to share with you. This list is one Mental_Floss blogger's top seven list of leading men. I was able to guess two of them (#1 and #4). I really want to add the ones I haven't read to my list. (For the record, I've read the first four books. I just didn't agree with 2 and 3.) I wish I knew how to hide part of this post, so you could guess the answers before you say them. Instead, you get a picture of something romantic.

Now, on to the list! On the website, they start with number 1, I'm choosing to go backwards from 7.
7. Enjolras (from Les Misérables by Victor Hugo)
6. George Emerson (from A Room with a View by EM Forster)
5. Edmond Dantes (from The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas)
4. Mr. Rochester (from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte)
3. Almanzo Wilder (from Farmer Boy and other books by Laura Ingalls Wilder)
2. Gilbert Blythe (from the Anne of Green Gables series by LM Montgomery)
1. Mr. Darcy (from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen)
How many did you guess?

  1. I have to admit, I think Almanzo and Gilbert should both be on there. I love them.

This is really a dang good list all around.

  2. I actually do like Gilbert, I just couldn't stand Anne. I've only read the first book so perhaps she gets better, but I can't stand to take that chance. Gilbert would have been great with a less annoying girl.

  3. Oh, I love Gilbert! You snuck (sneaked) this post in here and I missed it!! Hmmm...would that happen with google reader? :)

  4. It would NOT!

Google Reader rocks and is so easy to figure out. It automatically updates when people have new posts, no need to visit people who aren't posting. :)

  5. I looove Gilbert Blythe! And Anne certainly changes as the series progresses, but I loved her from the beginning, so I can't tell you if she gets better or not. And I completely agree w/ Enjolras-so much better than Marius. I don't really remember Almanzo, although I did read the series a looong time ago, and Mr. Rochester doesn't do it for me at all. He just annoyed me. I need to read Monte Cristo and Room with a View...
