2008 reading update

Time for a little update on where I'm at this year. I feel that I am woefully behind on everything....

I've got a couple of books partially read, and am getting better at not wasting my maternity leave. I hope to have a lot to show in the next few weeks.

Books read in 2008 (links go to my review):

  1. Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
  2. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
  3. 50 Greatest Love Letters of All Time edited by
  4. Austenland by Shannon Hale
  5. The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama
  6. Everything I Needed to Know About Being a Girl I Learned from Judy Blume, Jennifer O’Connell, editor
  7. Sex and Sensibility, Genevieve Fields, editor
  8. Storm Front by Jim Butcher
  9. Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs
  10. In the Midnight Rain by Ruth Wind
  11. Moneyball by Michael Lewis
  12. Fool Moon by Jim Butcher
  13. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
  14. Grave Peril by Jim Butcher
  15. The Tin Roof Blowdown by James Lee Burke
  16. Dedication by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus (review to come!)

Reading goals for 2008:

  • 60 books (5 a month) This is the 19th week this year. I've finished 16 books so am a little bit behind.
  • 5 books off The Big List. The Big List is an ongoing list of books I “should” have read. These are mostly classics, and since I read 4 of them last year, I figure 5 is doable this year. Zero so far.
  • 1 book of short stories. Nope, not yet.
  • 1 Russian novel. Uh-uh.
  • More by men. (only 14% in 2007) 7 of 16, pretty good!
  • More non-fiction of any type. 5 so far.
  • Try to read anything published in 2008 IN 2008. I think I only have one book from 2008 in my TBR. I think.
  • Complete my personal TBR Challenge list. This list is made of books that were hugely popular last year and that I own, but never got around to reading. 3 down, 9 to go.
  • Continue blogging about what I’m reading. Doing ok on this, not blogging every book, but enough.

The TBR list for 2008, in random order:

  1. I didn't much like Wicked, but I thought Bel Canto was great..

  2. I've got the perfect solution for those "Big List" books--my classics challenge! ;) Anyway, great lists all around--I hope you enjoy The Thirteenth Tale! I really liked that one.

  3. I know, trish! but I failed EVERY challenge I did last year, so I hesitate.

  4. I love making goals, but I'm not always very good on following up on them! Actually I think this year I am doing pretty well. I tend to read a lot of newly published books (probably too many and it messes up my other reading goals). And I loved Year of Wonders by the way.
