25 Things About Me

I keep getting tagged for this on Facebook, and why waste an opportunity to post to the blog?

1. I currently work as a loan officer at a small credit union. It is a scary time to be in the banking industry.

2. The worst part of my job is making phone calls. I hate to make phone calls, even ones with good news. I especially hate to make phone calls where I don't know what I'm talking about.

3. My favorite job ever was working at Books-A-Million during college. At times, I really felt like a rock star there. (Did you know, there are people who work at bookstores who DON'T LIKE TO READ??)

4. My least favorite job ever was at a grocery store bakery. I didn't get to bake things, I only got to clean up after the people who did.

5. I have a degree in history. I spent a lot of money to get it, and it's pretty darn useless.

6. Actually, I am STILL paying money for that degree.

7. I have been married twice. The second one is a keeper.

8. I met my husband online, playing EverQuest- a MMORPG. For years we spent more time playing a game than we did at work.

9. EverQuest is the only online game that I really got into playing. I dabbled in Dark Ages of Camelot, but it wasn't the same.

10. The only games I play now are Hi-Ho Cherry-O, Candyland, and Mancala.

11. I will kick your butt in Mancala.

12. I have two children, both boys. I always imagined myself with girl children, but now I can't imagine.

13. I live 1400 miles away from my family. Usually, this is not a bad thing.

14. I have lived in South Dakota for 6.5 years now. I am still occasionally surprised by this. (South Dakota?? REALLY??)

15. I drive a soccer mom car, even though my kids are too young for soccer. (2007 Ford Freestyle)

16. In the last few years, I have rediscovered a love of sewing.

17. I have just launched a new blog about the sewing at http://madebylisah.blogspot.com/

18. It will go nicely with the new Etsy shop, once I have some product made for the shop. http://madebylisah.etsy.com/

19. I have two tattoos. One is a hummingbird that I got when I first moved to South Dakota, and the other is a camellia (state flower of Alabama) that I got when I'd lived here for a year.

20. I'd like at least one more, for the boys.

21. I went to a boarding school in high school- The Alabama School of Math and Science. It was perfect for me, but as a mother I can't imagine letting my kid move away at 16.

22. I am still friends with my best friends from there.

23. I have a stupid number of unread books in my home, all of which I "really want" to read.

24. I am a huge fan of http://www.paperbackswap.com/, because it keeps me from actually buying all of those unread books.

25. I crave a week of doing nothing on the beach in the worst way. Of course, with two small children it would be not the relaxing paradise I imagine, but I still want to go.

In the Facebook rules, I am supposed to tag other people. I'm not going to, but if you'd like to participate feel free!

(Picture has nothing to do with the post, I just wanted to post a picture.)

  1. I love the fact that you met your husband playing Everquest! My boyfriend used to play it all the time too, and he's still in touch with some of the friends he made playing. In fact, last year we went to Wales and stayed with one of them. He had the same experience as you with Dark Age of Camelot. I never played MMORPGs myself, but I can so see myself loving Everquest too.

(And we also met online, but at a message board :P)

I was just taking a look at your etsy shop...I really like your correspondence kits :)

  3. I want a beach vacation too. My kids are now old enough to frolick right next to me without me having to join in with the sand digging, etc.

I was tagged for this on facebook too and it took me a long time to type out. Good idea to post it here.

Find me on Facebook. Full name is Tina Reed (Los Angeles, Network).

  4. There are so many things I want to comment on--I absolutely loved this post. I'm still paying for my useless Master's degree and probably will be for a while. I hate making that damn payment every month. One more...for the boys, huh? :) I can't imagine living 1400 miles away from home--I think you're incredibly brave for moving all the way out to SD. I see myself with girls, but I know because I want girls SO badly that we'll end up with boys. Especially since my sister is having a girl (her first baby) in 22 days.

Great to know more about you Lisa.

  5. My husband and I met online too, but it was more conventionally - through a dating site. My son was a big Everquest player for awhile; maybe he still is, but since he's living on his own now, I don't have to know about it :-).

I've been tagged for this one too - I suppose I should get around to doing it. I really enjoyed your list!

  6. What a smart cookie! Did you work at the Books-A-Million in Auburn? It's closed now. :(

  7. My favourite job was working in a bookstore as well. I miss it.

I'd been tagged again and again and finally did this yesterday (or was it the day before?)

  8. Nymeth, EQ was seriously addicting, but a lot of fun. Thanks for looking at the shop.

Serena, I only recently connected with some of my friends from middle school- on Facebook!

Ti, I haven't had a chance to check out your Facebook list. Hopefully tonight!

Trish, boys really are great. I admit to being a little sad when there was no girl, but I wouldn't change a thing now. SD is really a beautiful place (NO, REALLY!), but it is a long ways from AL.

Florinda, meeting online is the way to go! People snicker, but it's not any different from any other long distance relationship. Well, except you know if they are able to read and write early on.

Ms. Onion, I have already expressed my sadness about the store to you. I really need to get back to AU to see the changes.

Michelle, I saw your list, but didn't have time to read it. I'm hoping to get around to some blogs today.

  9. Got to love the useless history degrees. I have one myself :)

  10. I'd actually really love to drive through SD some day. I've never been up to that part of the country, so hubby and I are talking about a road trip.

  11. I love reading these lists for my blogger friends. It's a chance to get to know you just a little bit better. :-)

I'm with you on #2. I work in an office where the phones ring nonstop. I cringe when my phone rings at home.

You worked at Books-A-Million? How cool!

a week at the beach would be nice . . . I'd actually enjoy a week in the mountains--away from populated areas. The beaches around here tend to be a bit crowded.
