This week saw a lot of sewing- but not a lot of photographing! The biggest project of the week was this bag, which I made for myself. It's nearly perfect, and I love it. You can see more details here.
My not-so-secret obsession for The Pirate is to teach him to be able to name all the states on a map. (What? You think I should have started with something easier?) He's doing pretty good, probably has a third of them down now, with a scattering of correct ones from the remainder. New England is HARD. This video should help a lot.
The weather has turned to fall here. I wasn't ready.
I am reading several books at once, as usual, all of them excellent. Janssen suggested that everyone read The Wednesday Wars so I am, and it excellent. I also finally cracked into The Creative Family: How to Encourage Imagination and Nurture Family Connections by Amanda Blake Soule, and it is so beautiful and inspiring and everything I'd love to be with my children. Last, I picked up Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking at the library yesterday and can't wait to try it. What are you reading right now?
I just discovered that the Bug is wearing an entire stick of lipstick, better go! (Yes, will take a picture!)

I'm laughing about the lipstick! I hope you got a picture!
ReplyDeleteThat Franken video is something else, isn't it? That man is actually freakishly intelligent.

OMG...that bag is so ME! LOL. Too bad it's not mine. Hehe. It's what all the trendy folks are toting around these days. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI could not tell you where all the states are. I know the whereabouts of course, the region, but when I get to the East Coast it all gets a little fuzzy. I think that it's a good thing to know though.
You are doing a lot of reading! Today I am one big spaz because I am organizing a HUGE event for the school later tonight that will involve over 350 people. I am off on a furlough day today and here I am spending it WORKING on a school event. Dummy.
No reading for me today.
The bag is GORGEOUS. Are you SURE it's for you and not for your Etsy shop? Does that fabric come in black? Love love love it.
ReplyDeleteThat Creative Family book looks interesting. Will you review it when you're done? I'm starting to think a little more about educational books and crafts and activity books as I am maybe, possibly, pondering the thought of considering homeschooling. Whew, I said it. I'm just talking preschool for now, though.
PS I just finished reading Book Thief, and The No Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers is in the mail, but otherwise, I'm taking a little adult reading hiatus, because I read the Book Thief so obsessively that I gave myself my first migraine in 2 years. :( Oh, and our little guy, just to show us who's in charge, SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT for the first time last night, before the sleep book arrived.
ReplyDeleteOh! I'd love to see the lipstick picture. LOL
ReplyDeleteI can name the state's alphabetically, but that's about it. After you teach Tristan where all the states are on the map, then you can start working on the state capitols. :-)
I love the bag! I just picked up The Creative Family from the library last week - it looks so good.
ReplyDeleteI have too many books going right now...Pride and Prejudice, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Lolita, Catching Fire, The Woman in White, and on audio, The Feminine Mystique. It's quite the combination.
ReplyDeleteI'm terribly impressed by Al Franken now. Too bad he's not from CA!
And, as usual, love the bag!!
My sister-in-law is totally on my case to try the artisan bread thing. But I just haven't yet. . .soon!
ReplyDeleteWant to hear something really embarrassing? Of course you do! When I moved to Texas in the 4th grade, my teacher called on me to list the states that border Texas. Looking at the map, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, ArKANSAS. The whole class laughed at me. :(
ReplyDeleteStill I don't think I could do a good job pointing out the New England states.
You gotta post the lipstick picture. Oh, and love the bag--it is so you.
I am currently reading The City & The City by China Meiville. You have to post the Bug's picture w/ lipstick. Too funny!
