Have Nothing in your houses.

One of the things I've been working on in my spare time (go ahead, laugh, I do!) is the perfect "to do" list-slash- weekly calendar. I've got it roughed out in excel and each week I print it off on Monday morning. Once I have it perfect I'm going to share the actual form with you, but for now I want to share the first section. In the upper left corner of each week I have a section called "Inspiration." I've been finding a nice little thought or quote to plug in there, and reading over it and trying to internalize it. You might be the sort to do this with a Bible verse, I'm not- my quotes aren't even always from someone famous. And they aren't always quotes!

Anyway. This week I choose this:

"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful."

I thought it was fitting, since I'm packing to move into a home half the size of this one.

  1. We have far too much in our house. The problem is my hubby and I have different definitions of useful and beautiful.

  2. With kids, there is going to be stuff that isn't beautiful but it's a nice sentiment.

Can't wait to see your to-do template.

  3. This is something that is incredibly hard for me. I have so much stuff in my house and Scott has even more stuff. I just can't seem to figure out how to simplify. I get the concept of useful and beautiful but I feel guilty about things that were gifted to us or things that I've held onto since childhood. Etc etc. Really need to work on this.

Can't WAIT to see the to-do list. Have a feeling I'm going to need just such a thing in a few weeks.

  4. I live in an old Arts and Crafts style house, and I say "hogwash"! What about the wonderful keepsakes - Grandma's dishes or the kids hand prints or ...? Some things one just has to keep - no matter what.
