OverDrive, Audiobooks, Quilting

  • I just spent at least an hour trying to upgrade Windows Media Player through Overdrive so I could download an audiobook.  I am unable to follow these directions (step 2 never happens, my computer MEOWS at me! It's never meowed before, wth??), and when I click to the direct link, the upgrade button is grayed out. I thought maybe it was my firewall, so I turned it off. Still no dice. I have no more ideas. I begin to think that audiobooks are not worth this hassle. Scratch that, I finally got it!! Yay me!!
  • My phone and my Nook both have wifi. It kills me to have to go through my laptop to get books from the library on to them. It literally took me HOURS to get this set up and the book on my phone.
  • I spent a lot of time sewing this week (hence wanting an audiobook!). I'm working on a quilt for my new baby girl. Never mind that she's already two.
  • I also did one more unit of hexes for my hex quilt.
  • I had a great cooking week, tried four new recipes from a cookbook I got at the library. One more to try tonight and then I'll report back. Two are keepers, two are not. Tonight's breaks the tie.
  • Thanks for all the great suggestions for books for the Pirate. We're planning a library trip this weekend.

What I Read This Week (some weeks it's damn near impossible to remember):
  • The Sleeping Night by Barbara Samuel. Intense, lots of foreshadowing, terrific so far.
  • The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex. Just enough to know I'm not interested.
  • In Honor by Jessi Kirby. Gotta return this one Sunday, read or not. I like it just fine, but don't feel compelled to return to it when I put it down.

  3. Yay! I am glad you finally got it to work. I don't even want to think about trying myself right now . . .

I know how you feel about the whole book transfer thing with the Nook. Such a pain. I find it so much easier on my Kindle. But I love my Nook so I keep doing it.

  4. I also had a problem with Overdrive initially and finally got it to work. Simplicity is not in their vocabulary obviously. enjoy

  5. I ready only the first chapter of Smekeday and didn't like it at all. I'm so glad you accomplished it. Sorry you had to pull your hair out to get'er done.

    1. I mean I'm glad you got the audiobook downloaded...not clear in my typing. Too tired.

  6. Lol - you startled me there with the "new baby girl" thing! Hmm...now you're making a case for me to just avoid using my smartphone in a smart way or getting that Nook! Or, I'll just cry "Lisa! Help!"

  7. I totally feel your pain w/ the Overdrive until I figured it out. You don't have to go through your laptop. On your phone or Nook, you can download the Overdrive app. There's a Get Books tab thing. You can look up and add your library. Then log in with your library card, look up, and download the book all in the app. Took me ages to figure it out.

  8. Listening to audio books for relaxation and diversion is just great, but consider self-improvement audios as well.

Here is a brief review of an audio on how to boost your IQ score and improve your intelligence with simple training techniques - even while you are driving!

For some people, the only problem is this audio is that it available on 2 CD’s. Does anyone know how one can transfer this format to an iPod?
