The Sunday Salon: #5

SO many new books in my house this week! This is where I sit.

Yesterday the boys and I went to the library to return some books and to waste some time. The library is always good for an hour of free fun, plus our library has a coffee shop and we had NO coffee in our house. I forgot my library card, but turns out there is no age limit on library cards, so we signed the Pirate up for his very first library card! He was unimpressed. I managed to pick up the following:

I also seemed to have won not one, but two different Hachette Books giveaways. The first set arrived at my house this week (the political ones). I won these from Trish at Hey Lady! Whatcha readin'? I have to say, it's gonna be AWFULLY had to get through all these by Tuesday! I started with What You Should Know About Politics... But Don't. It's really very interesting, lots of stuff I didn't know!

The top book in the pile was not part of the giveaway, but did come in the mail this week.

This last picture is the books I currently have started. I'm hoping to get a chance to read today as my husband is home all day and can distract the kids. However, this also means I have a chance to sew, so I've been doing that first. Speaking of sewing, I need some help. I emailed a few of you a giant email, sorry about that. I didn't realize the pictures were so big until it was too late to stop it. If anyone else is interested in giving me a quick opinion, please leave a comment. I promise not to fill your inbox too.

What are you reading this week? Have you read any of these?

  1. Oh, I love stacks of books. I've read Coraline and it was a VERY odd book :)

  2. Look at all those books! I am glad you were able to get around forgetting to bring your library card--I am sure your son will come to appreciate having one eventually. :-)

Congratulations on winning the two giveaways! How exciting!

    Have a great week!

  5. LOL--I was wondering how Don't Look Me In The Eye was a political book!! That's a lot of stacks you got there...my office looks similarm, but I'm trying to figure out a way to get the books off the floor/desk and onto shelves...no luck so far!

Have a great rest of your Sunday!

  6. I thought Killing Monsters was great - as cheesy as it sounds, it really did change the way I think about stories and made me look at my brother's love of his playstation in a new light.

  7. I love the library! And I couldn't help but laugh that your son didn't care that he got a library card. Sounds like my own son. Have a great week!

  8. Of your stacks, I've only read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, which is one of my favorites of the past few years. Totally worth it. Right now I'm reading "Whatever It Takes," about Geoffrey Canada and the Harlem Children's Zone. Love it so far.

  9. Giant stacks of books are better than chocolate!

Lately I have been on a Fannie Flagg kick, even though I've already read most of her books. I'm going back for a second read.

  10. I have NO IDEA how I'm gonna get through all of those!

April, a coffee shop in the library is brilliant. You can take your coffee out into the rest of the library too, so sipping a latte while the Pirate chooses books is allowed! I love it.

Trish, MOST of my books are on shelves. Well, if you count on top of the shelves as a shelf.

Jennifer, I'm hoping that the book will help me with the Pirate's need to watch power rangers or TMNT or something all the time.

melody, I'm hoping I get to Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. SO MANY BOOKS.

aly, we have giant stacks of chocolate too right now from Halloween! Those will go to work with one of us today tho.

  11. For a Few Demons More was one of the few books I have bought because I could not wait it out on Paperbackswap. It was worth the money. Gina has promised me the next book when I see her this weekend. I may forget to socialize and just read for a few days. Sarah

  12. Coffee and library. Why hasn't someone thought of this? Maybe if I could buy a latte I would remember to go and return my books. :)

  13. I found "Love Walked In" to be one of the best books I've read in a long time. It held my interest from beginning to end and I didn't want it to end - I just got notified that the author's other book has arrived at the library for me.
