What I really read on my summer vacation...

Remember how I had you help me choose what books to take with me on vacation?

I didn't read any of them, not to the end, anyway. On the first night in the car I read 290 pages of Boy's Life (side note: getting large print was BRILLIANT for in the car reading! I'm enjoying it but had one little bit of wtf?? on a scene with the kids. I hope the whole book doesn't go there.) On the last day in the car I read 190 pages of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (Boy's Life was out of reach in the wayback. A, V, M is terrific. I'm actually keeping notes!) In between I read... 6 back issues of O magazine. Both books are quite good and keep your attention and I can't wait to finish them, but for some reason the magazines are what I read poolside.

On the last day Mike and I took a little time to ourselves and visited Books-A-Million. I was really really good and did not even venture into the regular shelves. Instead I amused myself with the clearance books and somehow found myself coming home with the following stack (at $3 each!):

Then, I got three new books in the mail last week. I usually don't get many books in the mail, or not if my Paperbackswap account is on hold anyway.

I am drowning in books! Not a bad way to go though.

Be sure to stop by the blog tomorrow to read my very first author interview. I'll be talking to Lily Burana, author of I Love a Man in Uniform. If you're blog tour adverse, no worries, this isn't part of an organized tour so this is the only place you'll see this interview!

  1. It's been years since I read Boy's Life and I remember loving it. Of course, we lived in France at the time and I was desperate for anything written in English.

  3. I will have to look into A,V,M. I did read both Audrey, Wait and Dedication - Audrey, Wait (to me) was much more enjoyable than Dedication and actually, until I read your post I hadn't even thought to compare them. I hope you enjoy and I am so jealous of your $3.00 finds!

  4. I always bring books with high hopes and then never read them. Nothing new for me!

(I could stand to read some back issues of magazines, though...)

  5. Lisa, I am always drowning in books & magazines. I don't mind though. I wouldn't have it any other way. Hope you had a great vacation in the south. We are having a lot of hot, humid weather. But I will not complain because this October when I am in northern KY. and freezing, I will think about these hot days.

  8. I just have to say that getting large print for car rides is BRILLIANT! My husband asked me to pick up a book at the library and it had a billion holds for the normal copy but the large print was on the shelf. I apologized when I brought it home, but he was thrilled and wished all books had such large type.

  9. I love the clearance section of bookstores. Actually, I have troubles finding stuff at the big chain stores but at the used bookstore--its like heaven.

I have to know the moment you're talking about in Boy's Life! Glad the LP is working out for you--I think that would be easier to read in the car as well. I can't read to myself in the car--only aloud. Weird huh.

  10. Loved AVM. Haven't read Boys Life. Just finished The Ivy Chronicles by Karen Quinn and just started The Midwife by Jennifer Howell (I think).

  11. I read Dedication AND Audrey, Wait and much preferred A,W. I read them about two years apart, so they didn't seem that similar to me.

  12. I just read Devilish and really enjoyed it...hope you liked it too! For some reason, the blogger.com search didn't show any posts with "Devilish" in them even though this post obviously has the word in it, so I'm not sure if you've posted a review for it yet...dang blogger.com!

  13. Kelly, I haven't read it yet, which is why it doesn't come up in a search! One day, right? Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it, I don't think I've seen a review for it yet either.
