Random Friday, It's Fall!

I have added so many lovely blogs to my reader that I can't seem to get it below 400. I'm tempted to go back to hiding the unread counts so it doesn't bother me as much.

It is fall here in South Dakota. It's mid-40s to mid-50s when we leave the house in the morning. The leaves are starting to turn. It seems like summer just got here! I'm hoping to get outdoors again this weekend for a bit, might have to wear our jackets. I'd still like to have one more camping trip before closing it up for the winter. I'm not sure if it's possible.

This post really resonates with me. This is the fall that I get my ducks in a row. We recently had a huge unavoidable bill. It will be a long while before our checking accounts recover. It's time we got smart with money. Once that's settled, I'm on to dressing like a grownup.

If you follow me on Twitter, then you know I broke the vacuum last night. But miracles do happen and it CAME ALIVE again! I would never have thought that a working vacuum would bring me so much joy, but not having to replace it about made me dance.

And, speaking of money, I've decided to start including a small shop update every Friday. I'll put it down at the end of the post, feel free to ignore it. I don't want to spam my blog with "buy my stuff buy my stuff!" but if I don't promote myself, who will? And honestly, we need the money. Plus, if I have to report to you all weekly it will inspire me to keep the shop up to date and full. So, weekly shop update. I will continue to post about what I'm actually making as I go along, I just won't spam you with the shop at any time other than Friday. Deal? (You can also click on the logo to go to the shop!)

  1. I think we all have that moment where we realize that we've been slacking and need to turn on the "grown-up" face. I think it happens to me at least once a month!

  2. After I took off a few pounds with the Game On Diet, I started to look at myself a bit differently and suddenly woke from my stupor. It happens. I don't wear flip flops and sweats but I am like a poster child for REI (kicking shoes, capris, Ts, etc. Comfortable for sure but sort of dumpy looking for dinner out. Sigh.

  5. PS Your etsy shop updates let me live vicariously through you. I thought about setting up an etsy shop earlier this year, and I got to the part where you select a username. I think it has a warning that your name can't be changed, so choose carefully (if I'm thinking about the right site). I couldn't decide and closed the window. Ha, talk about personal drive to succeed.

  6. Since BBAW, I've had trouble keeping my Google Reader down too.

I am glad someone is experiencing fall. It's still very much summer weather here in Southern California. It's supposed to be 107 out today. Summer just doesn't want to let go and give way to autumn here. You can come camping here. ;-)

I'm so glad the vacuum is working again. They're so expensive these days to replace. I am trying to hang onto mine as long as I can even though I know it isn't quite as good as I would like anymore.

The cats had their vet check-up today and the bill made me gasp. There's evidently a new tax I hadn't known about. With my loss of pay because of the forced furloughs, money is tight for us. I do want to talk to you though about a bag and one of your cute jewelry bags (maybe two--one for Christmas for someone). I don't know why I'm telling you this here instead of e-mailing you. LOL

  8. I totally had to speed read thru my Google Reader to get it back to a manageable level. I guess if it's more than I can handle in a reasonable time each day, I need to reduce the number of people I'm following. But I don't really wanna...

  9. How cool that your vacuum cleaner revived! I love the photo. I've got a similar photo of one of my children inside some tube-shaped thing. It's a favorite, framed and still hanging on the wall.

As to the Google Reader . . . ugh, hopeless. I periodically have to do a mass delete for my sanity, although I've got my reader set so that I can still view old posts. So, really, it's just to keep me from going stark raving mad.

  10. Our nights are a little cooler, but it's still hot here. I know what you mean about your vacuum cleaner. Sometimes little things like that can really bring unexpected happiness.

  11. I love this shot! Thanks for stopping by Teaparties and Playdates. I haven't touched Google Reader yet, but now you've got me intrigued... Thanks!

  12. Bookfool, Julia, thanks for the comment on the picture. This is pretty much straight of the camera. I thought it was cool. I have a similar one of the pirate, but his tube was less cool. I should post them together one day.

  13. So, if you posted some pictures of the leaves changing colors, I might give SD a second thought. Although I hate the cold weather, I really miss fall. We just don't have it here--although there is a crispness in the air in the mornings and evenings.

Read the ducks in a row post you linked to...very interesting. Valid points. But tell me, how does a grown up dress? :)

  14. That photo is wonderful! Very sci-fi looking. I like it.

Also, well done to you for promoting your etsy shop. There's some wonderful things there so I hope you keep at it and make some sales!

I'd just been having this conversation with N about dressing differently. I went through my wardrobe the other day and collected two bin bags full of old clothes for the charity shop. There were tops in there that I'd had (and continued wearing!) since I was 16. I'm 27, it's probably time to start dressing like I'm 27.
