2009 Reading Recap, part two- the Best of 2009.

I've been putting off making a list of my favorite books because I feel a self-imposed pressure to do something fun with my list.  I wanted to be like the cool people and break it up into categories, but as it turns out I really didn't read enough books to do that. So, here's my top 8 favorites for the year in no particular order.

A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table by Molly Wizenberg (my review)
Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson (my review)
The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen (my review)
Boy's Life by Robert McCammon (my review)
The Wednesday Wars by Gary D Schmidt (my review)
Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols (my review)
The Lace Reader: A Novel by Brunonia Barry (my review)
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life (P.S.) by Barbara Kingsolver (no review)

You can see the full list here.

What were your favorites for 2009? Did any one book stand out above others?

  3. Boy's Life is one of my all time favorite books so I understand why it's on this list.

  4. It is difficult for me to pick favorite books because I usually don't feel as strongly about a book once I get some distance from it. Right now, the standout is the Sookie Stackhouse series, but that is because I am in the middle of it. I also enjoyed the light and fun Sue Barton nurse series that I just finished.

  5. So cool to see Wintergirls on your list too! I loved Animal, Vegetable, Miracle as well.

I'm off to look up a few of the titles on your list I haven't seen before... :)

  6. I don't think I've heard of Boy's Life....I'll have to look into it. For 2010 I highly recommend The Help by Katherine Stockett. I will continue to rave about this one for a long time.

  8. Oh, A Homemade Life, I meant to read that! I can't remember where I saw it, but I remember thinking I should read it. Of course, I promptly forgot. Thanks for reminding me!

I started The Lace Reader and set it aside for a review book and neglected to pick it back up. I need to do that! And I looooove Animal, Vegetable, Miracle as well. It changed our eating habits BIG TIME!

  10. Great list, Lisa! I think it's fantastic that we have two favorites of 2009 in common! THE LACE READER is on my library loot list. I will get to it this year. I'm going to have to look into all of your others, too!

p.s. You ARE the cool people, silly.

  13. I haven't done my best in 2009 or reading stats list yet either because I wasn't keeping track the last few months and have to input the information and figure it all out first which I keep putting off.

I haven't read any of those although I'd like to read a few of the YA books.
