2010 Reading Goals and a look back at 2009 (TSS)

So you know how I've been saying for weeks that my reading goal for 2009 was 52 books? And then I pushed myself to meet that goal, because I wasn't gonna stop at 50 and be short two books?

Yeah, well turns out my goal was actually 50 books. Looks like I read two extra!

Last year's goals were really simple:
  • 50 books
  • Read the books published in 2009 IN 2009
  • Better reviews
A good set of goals, for sure. Not a lot of pressure, just simple goals.  This year I'm keeping it simple, but changing it slightly.

  • 52 books (ahem)
  • Read the books published in 2010 IN 2010
  • Fit the TBR book into the TBR shelves without piling them on top. This can be because I read them or because I gave them away, but either way I want less clutter.
  • Bring myself current on a handful of series and try to stay that way.
(Yes, I know that's a lot of series, I don't expect to get them all, but I'd like to try.)
I've been doing some thinking about how I want to log my books this year as well. For the last few years I've keep a list in the form of a bibliography in a pretty journal and a list online as well. I can't bring myself to give up the paper journal, but I might tweak the online bit a little.  I'm also keeping a list of the books Mike reads this year so you'll be able to find a link to that in the sidebar as well. (This is for my own use as well as your interest, I really enjoying picking out library books for him and it will be useful to keep a list of what he's already read.)

Today my plans including writing up the last few reviews from last year and the first couple reviews for 2010. I'm hoping to set them up to publish over the next couple of weeks so I don't have to scramble for content.

At some point in the next couple of weeks I hope to compile a master list of my reviews by author and/or title to make browsing easier. Do you have a master list on your blog? Any suggestions on the easiest way to do it? Is yours by author or title or both? Help me out, save me some trial and error.

What are your goals for the year? Anything I should add to mine? Did you make your goals for last year? (And remember them correctly?) What's on the agenda for today?

(Once again, the picture has nothing to do with the post, I just like to add pictures of my cuties.)

    1. There are so many things about blogging that I do not know. I wish I knew an easy way to post my reviews without posting them all on the front page of my blog.

    2. I really don't have any goals - that way I won't be disappointed when I don't meet any of them. Good luck with your goals! I love the picture!

    3. I haven't done the author/title list because I'm lazy. :-D I just copy the year into the prior year page when it's done, and call it good. Plus, I like the reminder of when I read something, and what I order I read things in.

I figure if someone wants to find something in particular, they can use the search box.

    4. I'd like very much to get through the books on my to-read shelf in the next 6 months. We'll see. I'm amazed by how much you read last year!

    5. I have some goals in mind for the year, but won't beat myself up if they don't get met. I really just want to enjoy what I read, challenge myself just a little, and keep 'pressures' away from reading and blogging - it's what I do for me!

    6. My goal is just to keep reading but as I'm adding another kid to the mix...well, it will be a busy year for me :) Love the picture of your boys by the way...they are getting so big! I'm a huge fan of a lot of the series that you are hoping to catch up on so good luck with that! I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on them.

    7. I've wanted to do a list of books by title and author for a while, but keeping getting too busy with other things. Right now I just have lists of the books I read each year in the order I have read them.

    8. I don't have any goals really, at least none in writing. More classics would be good. I am starting a new book club so that will take some focus until it's up and running smoothly.

    9. I have too many series to try and catch up, although I'd dearly love to! But I like your idea of actually reading the 2010 books in 2010. I don't know how successful I was with that in 2009.

    10. I think that's my task for today: compiling a list of goals for my reading, for my blog, for my personal life. I have a rough idea, but it needs to be written down, I think.

Good luck with your goals, and wow, books in a series scare me! Especially such a lot of series books.

      Your boys = gorgeous!

    12. Great goals, Lisa. I really love keeping lists of the books I read, the books I want to read, all that jazz. I may start keeping track of the year my books were published in. I think I read A LOT of pre 2009 releases in 2009 and would like to make an effort to read more new releases.

I love the idea of you keeping a list of the books Mike reads on your sidebar. Great idea!

      Good luck! :)
