Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - it's here!!

SO excited about the last Harry Potter movie(s)! Unfortunately, with the timing of our move we won't be seeing the movie tonight. I have high hopes for using it as a bit of stress relief next week, but we'll see how that goes. Meanwhile, I've been contenting myself with watching the trailer over and over.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
In preparation of the movie, I re-read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7) by J K Rowling (along with most of the other crazy HP fans out there!)  I actually bought a copy of the book while we were in Hawaii back in February. I spread out the read over most of the year, finishing it up in October. Mike and I both read Deathly Hallows when it first came out, racing each other to the end. I, of course, cried the first time, but I managed to not cry the second time around. There is a moment near the end that had me leaping from my chair in joy the first time around, but this time it didn't hit me nearly as hard. While I did enjoy it this time, and consider the series to be a favorite and well worth re-reading, it didn't pack nearly the emotional punch for me this time as last time. This is not to say that I was disappointed, I wasn't, I just didn't feel the excitement of the finale quite as strongly.

Regardless of this, I can't wait to get settled into the new house and find a babysitter so we can go see the movie!

Are you a Harry Potter fan? Did you buy Deathly Hallows the day it came out? Did you re-read the book, or all the books, in preparation of the movie? Will you see the movie on opening day? Will you come watch my kids so I can go see it? Please?

  1. I think we bought all but the first book the day it came out. We plan to see the movie, but will probably go during the day next week to avoid the crowds.

  3. That's why I haven't re-read any of these books--afraid they'll fall flat. :(

But can't wait to see the movie...one day.

I'm following Voldemort on twitter and I have to say his tweets continually make my day.

  4. I'm so surprised that my boys are excited by the Harry Potter movies. Both of them absolutely gobbled up the books.

  5. I adored the movie and while I didn't reread Deathly Hallows before I went to see it, I definitely started reading it again the moment I got home!

  6. I really, really wanted to re-read the books (and rewatch all the movies) as well before going, but I didn't get the chance. I reread Half Blood Prince awhile ago (but mostly to drag me out of a reading slump) and my intention was to carry on with Deathly Hallows straight after but then I got sucked into reading review books and other commitments!

  7. I FINALLY read the last book this past August, thanks to my daughters pushing and nagging me for well over a year AND for joining a Big Book Reading Challenge.

I saw the movie with my 11 year old on the weekend it came out and really loved it. The scene with the sword between Harry and Ron in the woods wasn't as profound in the movie as I had hoped it would be, but really, no complaints. Other than having to wait for next summer to see THE LAST movie!

If I didn't live 1700 miles from you, I would gladly come babysit your kids so you could go to the movies. xo
