Mini Reviews for a handful of books from the last few months.

While you wait for me to get my act together, here's a handful of extreme mini-reviews of books I read this sunmer.

Fair Game by Patricia Briggs is the third in her Alpha & Omega series.  I was as impatient to get this as I am for any Briggs, but I have to admit that it's not my favorite in the series. I love that it's more about Anna, and I loved the scene with the investigators, but it seemed to be over too quick without advancing the story much. That said, this is a still a series I enjoy.

In the Midnight Rain by Ruth Wind. I've said it multiple times before- this is one of my favorite books. If you're hesitant to read a romance novel this is a great place to start. It's got the blues, the South, music, heat, tension, bourbon, mystery, history, sex. There's not a big misunderstanding and both hero and heroine act like adults. Published in 2000, there is a little talk of online newsgroups that seems a wee bit dated, but otherwise it held up well.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E Smith.  I love the idea of falling in love on a plane and within 24 hours. I love that it's so chaste. I don't buy it happening though and I didn't feel like there was enough meat to the Hadley/ Oliver story. It was more about her dad, which was fine, but I read YA romance for the romance, not for the father daughter story.

A Night Like This by Julia Quinn. I love Julia Quinn, but this wasn't one of her best. Sure it was good, but it wasn't swoon-worthy. I have no problems with Love At First Sight, but this was just too fast and unrealistic, there's just no way a Gentleman would act like he did, swooning after a servant. I did enjoy the mystery of it, even if it wasn't much of a mystery.

Confessions of a Prairie Bitch by Alison Arngrin. Some scoop on Little House on the Prairie, but all of it very positive. A lot about her life and about AIDS awareness and sexual abuse. I rarely read memoirs that actually cover an entire life and not just one aspect of it, so this was like reading a new genre. I felt like it was written to the most basic level of readers and that it was completely whitewashed, but it was still interesting.

  2. The Alpha & Omega series is growing on me, but I think I prefer Mercy... I can't wait until the next book!
