- I really liked this blog post on reader hype and how it turned into a rant about Fifty Shades of Gray NOT being a romance novel. " Which makes me sound snobby and elitist, but it's hard to keep a sense of humor about stuff like this when people either 1) Squee! about Fifty Shades, then look disdainfully at my Harlequin Romance or 2) Use Fifty Shades as an example for all of Romancelandia (See? This book sucks - ergo all romance novels must suck!)."
- This amazing story about a family living in Siberia who hadn't had human contact in 40 years, and thus had no idea WWII had happened.
- YALSA's Top Ten Best Fiction for Young Adults, 2013. I haven't read any of them, but most of them are already on my list.
- Interesting post on writing what you love and not worrying about what will sell by Allison Winn Scotch.
- You know I'm not an Anne Shirley fan, but I totally agree this post at Publisher's Weekly's ShelfTalker about the new cover.
- The body of Richard III has been found, that's pretty cool.
- Scarlet fever probably didn't blind Mary Ingalls?

Try the Story Girl series by Montgomery if you didn't like Anne or give the later ones in the Anne series a try. Under no circumstances should you read the Pat series. I like Anne and I want to smack her.
ReplyDeleteThe blog post that mentions 50 Shades is great. Although, I have to say I really liked Larsson's book and didn't mind the details. I didn't see where she argued James's book wasn't a romance novel--in fact, she refers to it as erotic romance a couple of times--but maybe that's in the comments? I didn't read through all of those.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a straight romance reader, but I would never judge romance based on one or two books, 50 Shades or what have you. Nor would I think less of someone who reads romance novels. It's sad that people do.
Personally, I find the hype and the heated debates about 50 Shades more amusing than anything. It's funny the things people get so passionate about. Remember Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code? Same type of thing.
I can't wait to drop by later and look at all these great links. All look click-worthy!
ReplyDeleteThe article about the family in Siberia just blew my mind. I can't wait to share this with my students. What an incredible tale. Thanks for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteThat article about the family in Siberia is incredible. Imagine living like that, knowing that there were other people in other places but staying where live was so hard.
