Heat Stroke is the second book in the Weather Wardens series. I absolutely loved the first one. This one was also good, but for unknown reasons seemed to take forever to read. I love the uniqueness of the plot on this, there isn't really another similar series (that I've heard of.) The characters, while having unique abilities, are similar to those from other series. How many strong, determined, independent heroines have you read? Regardless of this, I did enjoy the book, and will continue to read the series.
I'm not saying any more, because I don't want to give anything away to anyone who hasn't read the first on. I find series books hard to review well for this reason. However, if you're a fan of urban fantasy, go ahead and pick the first one up, they're great books.

Yes, the first couple of books by Rachel Caine in the Weather Warden series are very good, but towards the fifth? sixth? she gets very repetitious. Which is why she probably started the The Morganville Vampire series. Those are too juvenile for me, though I did read the first two.

3. Did you read more than usual? Same as Lisa- Not more than I used to, but more than I have lately. Work, school, my physical and psychological health have played a toll on me this summer but books have been my mainstay.
4. Did you give up anything in order to read more? Nope!
5. If you won the Amazon voucher what would you spend it on? There are a couple more chick flick DvD's I would like to pick up, and maybe some more books about nursing.

I'm a little late to the party, here, so forgive me if you've already addressed this. Did you like Joshilyn Jackson? I read Gods in Alabama, and while I couldn't get over how much I loved the first line, I didn't really like the rest of it. Which of her books did you read?
ReplyDeletekathryn, that's been my experience with almost every series. Even if the plots don't seem the same, the author repeats phrases about the characters over and over. For example, Eve Dallas's hair cut, or Mira's tea in the In Death series. Stephanie Plum's mascara. I'm hoping if I spread them out enough I won't get that here, tho I've already heard enough about David's copper eyes and little round glasses.

ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in the fun - I'm glad you discovered some new authors - I've discovered Jackson this year too - I read the Girl who Stopped Swimming and really liked it.
Funny how you read every chance you get when you set yourself a target - I found myself reading in the kitchen while cooking which I don't usually do!
