Volunteer for a free membership? Yes, please.

Sewing with toddlers

  • The Princess's chevron quilt is all done, except the binding. Now to think about Halloween costumes. I think she's gonna be Little Red Riding Hood. (The boys will be superheroes, of course.)
  • I could have written this.
  • I signed up to volunteer 4 hours a week at the Y in exchange for a free family membership. Seems like a good deal to me!
  • My Birchbox last month had a sample of this Mighty Leaf Vanilla Bean tea in it. Possibly the best cup of tea I've ever had.
  • Today was school picture day. Am I the only one who hates paying for pictures before I see them?
  • This week I tested out recipes from a new cookbook, I'm hoping to get that review up this weekend.

What I Read This Week:
  • Mom, Inc.: The Essential Guide to Running a Successful Business Close to Home by Meg Mateo Ilasco & Cat Seto. I didn't read every word of this one, but skimmed the parts that seemed most applicable to me. I'm not sure who would find it a great resource, it's very basic and broad with not a lot of specific detail. I much preferred Craft, Inc..
  • Indulgence in Deathby J. D. Robb. This was my very first audiobook! I listened to it at the gym and while sewing and it really made time fly. I have more to say about the experience of an audiobook, but the book itself was pretty standard J.D. Robb. I'd love to be caught up on the series, but too many of these in a row feels pretty formulaic.
  • The Sleeping Night by Barbara Samuel. Wow. This one is gripping. I'm not done yet (it's an actual .pdf from Net Galley and the font is TINY) but unless it takes a turn for implausible, I'm going to love it.
  • Tweet Heart by Elizabeth Rudnick. I don't think you can even say I read this. I tried, but discovered that reading an entire book of tweets is massively annoying, and very hard to skim. Perhaps if they'd used different fonts for each character. I returned it completely unread.

  1. You have to pre-pay for school pictures? I don't remember doing that. Of course, my brain is pretty foggy some days.

  2. Do they provide child care while you are volunteering?

  3. I was surprised at how much it cost to join the Y! We got a program membership so Mouse could take swimming lessons. It's not too close to our house unfortunately, so I can't see using it for more than that.

The Legos post is hilarious--and so true not just for Legos (as I'm sure you well know)!

  4. YOU really could have written that LEGO post! I don't miss those days, although I do miss seeing my guys sitting for hours building and being creative. You only have to volunteer 4 hours a week for a free membership at the Y? That is a great deal. Assuming you have four hours to volunteer. Not sure I can imagine where you're finding four hours you weren't already using for something else!
