Still hexing!

I'm still working away on The Princess's pink and gray hexagon quilt. As of this post, I am at 937 hexies done, with 1993 to go (and some half hexagons, but who's counting? Oh, right. I am.) to make a full sized quilt.

For my birthday I bought myself a new quilting book, all about paper piecing, called Quilting on the Go. And now I want to make other designs too. I started with 6 point stars.

My plan is to do a table runner in Christmas colors and then hand quilt it so that I can find out how much I hate hand quilting before I take the plunge on the big quilt.  I'd hate to get a little ways in and discover that I hate it completely. I feel a bit like I'm cheating on the hexagons, but it's nice to finally get to sew something together. (I'm not sewing the hexies together until I get much farther in, I want a nice random distribution of prints.)

I discovered that these little plastic boxes that Playmobil sets used to come in are perfect for traveling with hexes, so I expect to take them around everywhere now. (No worries, I stole them from the kids years ago, they've just had other sewing bits in them before now.)
