I choose to do this pin for Almond Bars from Write Meg for my first entry in the Pin It and Do It Challenge.
It looked tasty and miracle of miracles, it's all ingredients I actually have on hand. I mixed them up during naptime with the Bug, and he was the first tester. He LOVED them. Success!
Here's my version of food styling:
Not quite so pretty as hers!
I did have to increase the baking time from 20-25 minutes to almost 35 minutes, and then they still didn't cut into pretty bars like hers did (as you can tell.) They still tasted terrific though, and that's really all that matters.
I'm also linking up to Weekend Cooking with this one.

Yummmmm!!!! Love those turtles; I remember when my nephew was obsessed with them.
ReplyDeleteMy boys aren't completely obsessed like my brothers were, but they still fight over that plate.
DeleteHaHa! Love your food styling. I would call it "real life"
ReplyDelete"Real life with iPhone and kids."
DeleteYour plating is fantastic. ;) I think I have all the ingredients for these as well...should give them a go!
ReplyDeleteI love your plate! It's been a long time for me to see the Turtles, when my son was little we had all the plates, pj's, and figures :) The almond bars look delicious.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time with my oven and cooking times. We actually bought a thermometer to make sure when I have it on 350, the oven really is at 350.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture! I might have to try and make them myself.
Yep, the taste is the most important part. My 24 year old son would love the plate!
ReplyDeleteYour plate is fabulous!! i love it!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine a better plating for a little boy! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteI love your food styling! You seem like a real person ;)
ReplyDeleteLOVE your version of food styling. :)
ReplyDeleteI love any and all things almond flavored. I'm definitely going to give this a try!
I love the Ninja Turtle plate. That's awesome. The cake sounds yummy.
ReplyDeleteI love that everyone loves my plate, who cares about the food!
ReplyDeleteThe turtle plate is a big winner. Did you get the right amount of butter , and ensure that you used large eggs. most recipes require large eggs to work. Other than oven temp, I don't know what else might have required the longer cooking time. Guess it doesn't really matter if it tasted good. Thanks for sharing the link.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely have large eggs, it's possible the butter was off. I really need to buy an oven thermometer.
DeleteI love almonds and these bars look lovely. Who cares if they didn't turn out exactly like the original?
ReplyDeleteOh, what a FUN challenge. I have so many pins I need to knock out! And I'm a BIG almond lover, so I know I want these. Oh boy, another pin.... ;)
ReplyDeletewell, your pic has...character! yeah, character! lol
ReplyDeletethey still look delish.
Looks like a winner to me! My 35 year old son still has his ninja turtle toys:)
ReplyDeleteAs long as they were delicious who cares how it looks. I usually have to increase bake times a little. I think my oven temp might be a little off.
ReplyDeleteI can see why this was a winner. Who could resist a lovely almond bar so beautifully presented?
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm I love things that taste like almond. Yum! Even if yours isn't as nicely cut as hers (as you said), I still think it looks DELISH!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooooo making these. Anything almond makes me happy.
